To infinity and beyond may be Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase, but what does that have to do with pie? It’s actually, about pi (π) which of course is the mathematical number — a constant, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159, which goes on to infinity and beyond. We take the first three digits, 3.14, and read them as a date: Pi Day, March 14th, which is, of course, the best day to eat a slice of pie in celebration of Pi Day. (more…)

According to an article from the National Institute on Aging, “Staying cognitively active throughout life—via social engagement or intellectual stimulation—is associated with a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease. . . . Mentally stimulating activities such as reading books and magazines, going to lectures, and playing games are also linked to keeping the mind sharp.”
Summertime reading is a time-honored tradition. Do you remember the lazy days of summer when you were a kid and could get lost in a book for hours, or how about taking a book to the beach or to the pool, or staying up all night to finish a book? Summer evenings are the ideal time to catch a show at the theater; but there’s nothing more annoying than being seated by “that guy” — you know the one.
